The new love interest in the latest Transformers franchise is someone both men and women are starting to recognize… the long-legged, big-lipped bombshell that graces the pages of Victoria’s Secret is Miss Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. While promoting her film debut, Rosie’s chic choices are delightfully understated but incredibly glamorous. Rosie displays her best assets with dramatic plunging necklines or thigh-high train slits and this lady knows perfectly well what works for her. We decided Rosie needed some additional attention for her custom Burberry navy number on a Sunday dedicated to blue! (For a red, white and blue weekend!) Rosie did everything right by wearing studs instead of distracting over-sized pieces of jewelry and by keeping her lusciously long tresses swept up gently away from her face and shoulders. Let’s see if she sticks around longer than Megan Fox…
Marisa Miller – one of the hottest women on the planet – looked like a sexy version of Daisy Buchanan at this year’s Kentucky Derby. In a beige dress and a matching 1930s hat with a rose-colored ribbon, Miller was definitely the best-dressed at this year’s 2nd largest event for hats (Did you hear about that wedding a month ago?) Miller always looks gorgeous, so it’s no surprise she still looks stunning in vintage. Well, the show may be for horses, but who can look at animals when you have this fox slinking through the crowd?
“Be sure what you want and be sure about yourself. Fashion is not just beauty, it’s about good attitude. You have to believe in yourself and be strong.” – Victoria’s Secret supermodel Adriana Lima
Gisele Bündchen, the famous Brazilian Victoria’s Secret supermodel (and the highest paid one on Earth), recently appeared in advertisements for Swedish clothing chain H&M. But ads for the company’s Spring/Summer 2011 line were deemed too hot for Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Wait… too hot for the desert? It was first mentioned on fashion website La Moda Dubai. Bündchen’s images were altered by adding fake white t-shirts and tanks. (Which we’ve pictured here). You know, because the married, mother of one is a real sexual/political threat in long dresses, pants and, what the heck is that thing pictured above? A really ugly floral jumpsuit. The only thing we find offensive about these ads is how ugly the clothing is. I mean, white jeans? Really? Is it 1983? Most of these items couldn’t be pulled off by the majority of the women on the planet anyway. H&M’s ironically-named “Spring Awakening” apparently isn’t going to be the awakening of any Middle Eastern women, but a tool in further oppression. Considering how tame the images were to begin with, it only makes us wonder how many other things these countries ban. Quite a sad commentary on our times.
In honor of Colleen Atwood’s third Oscar win last Sunday, we chose our favorite costume of hers for this “Fancy Friday” pick. Christina Ricci wears this vertical black and white striped, turn of the 19th Century gown in the final scene of Sleepy Hollow as Katrina Van Tassel in Tim Burton’s 1999 version. Burton and Atwood designed this dress as an homage to Burton’s wacky lead character from Beetlejuice. The dress is both sophisticated and gothic, like many of Atwood’s beautiful creations. But this look is absolutely timeless… One of our editors has a similarly-patterned Ralph Lauren button-down shirt, and recently purchased Victoria’s Secret silk pants with the same stripes (pictured right)! Ichabod Crane and Katrina may have been scared of losing their heads, but we’d be more petrified of losing this fantastic frock!
Frequent fashion violators like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Ashlee Simpson have been wearing a trend theSkinnyStilettodeems overdone. These girls often pair opaque black stockings with black shoes. Black stockings look elegant when they’re sheen and/or have piping down the backs of the legs à la Bettie Page (pictured, left). Nowadays, women just wear dark tights that don’t give any meaning to the words shape, style, or sexy. Ladies end up looking childish, and the outfit gets lost when the eye can’t distinguish leg from stiletto. The shoes don’t stand out (no matter how gorgeous or expensive they are) and the women end up appearing like they have stumps, instead long, beautiful legs.
How to Wear this Trend: Take note from Victoria Beckham (pictured, above right) or Leighton Meester (pictured, middle right), who’ve mastered patterned black stockings. Also, Victoria’s Secret offers a great selection of sheer black hosiery. But don’t copy Taylor Momsen (pictured, top right)… She looks like she just finished working her shift on that sidewalk.
