Haven’t had enough of the royal wedding, yet? Kate Middleton’s famous Alexander McQueen bridal gown by Sarah Burton will go on display for visitors to see this coming summer! Buckingham Palace will offer tours from July 23rd to October 3rd of this year to view Princess Catherine’s dress, Cartier tiara, veil, heels, as well as the Rolls-Royce Phantom and 1902 State Landau coach that carried Kate and Wills. (Fun Fact: Even the wedding cake by Fiona Cairns will be shown in the State dining room!) Seeing the royal jewels is always a fun choice while visiting London, and being able to see this exhibit seems like a great addition! Tickets are $28.70 for adults and $16.50 for children. Wish we were there!
Kate may be the princess, but it seems no one can stop talking about her sister, Pippa! The cute brunette drew attention in her body-hugging bridesmaid gown, and it seems the public liked what they saw! Here is the maid-of-honor leaving London the day after the royal wedding in a crisp, summery look. She’s wearing a blue jacket from ZARA, white jeans, Tory Burch shoes, and a light grey Modalu Bristol handbag – which became so popular after this photo was taken that Modalu renamed it the “Pippa Bag.” Now that Kate is hitched, the public probably wants a new face to fawn over… and it seems Pippa is the new favorite!
The day before Mother’s Day, and the final day of featuring the best-dressed guests of the royal wedding, who else would we feature, but the princess’s pretty mama, Carole Middleton? Mother-of-the-bride dresses are usually the epitome of matronly, but this mom looked fresh and stylish in her powder blue Catherine Walker getup (which is definitely her daughter’s favorite color…) While many of the headpieces of the day looked quite incommodious, Carole’s is a sleek and modern version of the classic hat, created by Jane Corbett. Princess Catherine’s mother has received flak for once working as a flight attendant for British Airways, but after building her own multi-million party business (and marrying her eldest daughter to some royal – I don’t know if you’ve heard about it…), I bet she’s the only one laughing now!
Playing second fiddle to a blushing bride isn’t always a fun job (especially when you’re in the world’s most watched wedding – don’t trip! Only 1/3 of the planet is watching!) But Princess Kate’s kid sister seemed to be having a grand ol’ time at her big sister’s royal nuptials! Pippa Middleton seems as perky and fun as her nickname! Princess Catherine wasn’t about to make her maid-of-honor look like a dog – she outfitted Pippa in a sexy gown by the same designer (Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton) as herself. What a good sister! People were perplexed why Pippa was in white too, but it’s royal tradition to dress a lady-in-waiting in a similar color to the bride. Both girls looked quite glamorous, which is why we waited a week to feature Pippa in her own post! And really? Which wedding guest had a gown appropriate enough for “Fancy Friday” that wasn’t Kate?
Definitely the most modern-looking guest, Prince William’s cousin, fashionista Zara Phillips, looked quite striking in silver and black on the big day. Zara, Princess Anne’s only daughter, is the next in line to get married (on July 30th of this year), but even though she wasn’t the bride last week, she wasn’t going to melt into the background at this wedding! Phillips is wearing a nearly vertical black Philip Treacy hat, and a sleek silver dress by Irish designer Paul Costelloe. Complementing this modern look with old-fashioned black Mary Jane stilettos was just adorable. (Just like yesterday’s Look-of-the-Day!) Accompanied by her professional rugby-playing fiance, this royal equestrian is sure to turn heads at her own nuptials this summer.
We’ve featured two pairs of Kate Middleton-inspired footwear for the last two weeks, so it makes sense to round out the trend with her wedding shoes. The new princess wore custom-made Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton lace heels to match her gown by the same designer. According to the royal website, the nude stilettos were covered in “ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.” Net-a-Porter is exclusively offering similar McQueen pumps to those interested in copycatting. The round-toed pumps are 4.5 inches high and retail for $995.
Probably the most famous attendees at the royal wedding were this “Tuesday Twosome,” David and Victoria Beckham (the other “royal” couple of England). David looks just delectable in his Ralph Lauren purple label morning suit and top hat. And Posh looks, well… pregnant and posh. As, usual. This is the perfect “Look-of-the-Day,” incorporating the best-dressed guests at the royal nuptials, as well as featuring David the day after his birthday, and Victoria donning a maternity dress from her own line (hint, hint on what we’ll be discussing this weekend for Mother’s Day…) Posh was also in navy blue – a perfect tribute to our SEALs for catching Bin Laden! Our favorite Spice Girl accessorized her look with 7-inch Christian Louboutin platform stilettos, and a headpiece by designer-of-the-moment Philip Treacy. Everyone’s eyes were on William and Kate, but we think these Brits are still the cutest couple of the UK!
Ah from one commoner-turned-princess to another, Charlene Wittstock showed up to Friday’s nuptials looking smashing. Wittstock, pictured here with her fiance Albert II, will be the next bride in a royal wedding, as she is set to marry her prince this July. Wittstock, a South African Olympic swimmer and soon-to-be royal, wore a sophisticated white chapeau and a delicate, soft blue-gray frock by Swiss label Akris. Oddly enough, Albert’s mother, Grace Kelly, is probably the most famous commoner to ascend the throne… and apparently the style inspiration Kate Middleton supposedly copied for her own wedding dress. Oh, well. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Well, now that William and Kate are husband and wife, we thought we’d be over talking about the new princess… but we’re not! This week’s “Look-of-the-Day” segment will feature the best-dressed wedding guests of the happy couple! This stunner in navy looked just as glamorous as Kate! When we looked her up theSkinnyStiletto discovered that the Lady Frederick Windsor was actually Sophie Winkleman – an actress turned royal. This is what we expected more of the guests to look like – a modern take on classic suits and wide-brimmed hats, but most invitees looked like they were competing to see who was wearing the craziest headpiece! Winkleman’s diamond-patterned suit could easily look dowdy on an older woman, but she’s just so beautiful, she looks like she’s playing the lead in a Richard Curtis film.
