This week the world lost one of the greatest musicians of our lifetime, David Bowie. He and his supermodel wife, Iman, were one of the long-lasting celebrity couples and one of the most stylish pairings, as well. Here is the lovely couple leaving their hotel in Paris in 1991. Iman looks amazing – she’s rocking her natural curls, perfectly Parisian black ballet flats and a matching purse, with oversized houndstooth printed pants and a matching jacket in black and white gingham. She is the definition of a chic model, while Mr. Bowie looks classic in white pants, a mock turtleneck and a navy blazer. Both manage to look preppy, without looking stuffy, and still maintain their personal styles. Mr. Bowie’s effortless cool was one of many elegant attributes. He will surely be missed. RIP Ziggy Stardust.
Audrey Hepburn has donned the most famous little black dress, so it’s no surprise she’s probably worn the most iconic red dress, too! For our final Valentine’s week post, we’ve chosen Hepburn wearing this legendary strapless, column gown by Givenchy in the 1957 film, Funny Face. Her character, Jo Stockton, goes from a mousy bookworm to an international model, and this is her infamous arc – running down the steps of the Louvre in Paris, coming into her own, just like her sister statue at the top of the staircase, The Winged Victory. (FYI, it’s really hard to recreate this shot when visiting Paris, because this place is always crawling with tourists… Hehe.) The gorgeous clothing in this film is from the often-paired Edith Head and Hubert de Givenchy. Who knew their partnership, and sometimes rivalry, would appear in so many historical cinematic moments?! <3
On this rainy day in June, who better to feature on “Tuesday Twosome” than Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise walking in the same kind of weather?! (Especially because we just pre-ordered Suri’s Burn Book by the ingenious Allie Hagan!) Back in 2007, the pair were visiting Paris, when Tom Cruise was filming Valkyrie. Katie is sporting a trench coat by Lanvin, a belted pastel dress, and Christian Louboutin peep-toe stilettos. Suri is sporting a navy and white polka-dotted dress supposedly designed by her mother and matching Newborn Surfer Sandals, while her mother carries her baby blanket by Little Giraffe. The two make one glamorous mother-daughter duo as they shop the streets of France.
This editor mentioned last week that she had just returned from a mid-January vacation to London and Paris, and while looking through my favorite Gossip Girl looks, I decided to go with Blair’s Spring 2010 Bensoni polka-dot dress when she goes to Paris, too! Miss Waldorf has a veritable Cinderella moment, when she forfeits one of her beautiful stiletto pumps in exchange for a mysterious date (what is she – crazy?!), while visiting an art museum. Alas, Blair soon realizes that her prince isn’t what he seems though (hmm, we’ve all been there…), and that maybe Paris isn’t as magical as she once thought it was.
Everyone’s favorite fashionista Carrie Bradshaw is today’s choice for Look-of-the-Day. This outfit comes from the show’s last episode, “An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux.” Carrie walks the streets in the city of love wearing a red and black polka-dotted Balenciaga dress with a pop of green tulle, a white-cuffed black LaCroix coat, white Christian Louboutin pumps and a charming bright red umbrella. Miss Bradshaw looks quintessentially French here, but she doesn’t stay for long!
