Who better to complete “Back-to-School Week,” than the reigning queen B of making school clothing look so good? It’s Blair Waldorf again, sporting an adorable navy blue pencil skirt, white silk blouse, and a matching short tie, complete with a pearl tie tack. Her accessories are what really make the outfit pop – a red belted headband (of course, it’s Blair, after all) with a matching bag, red and white slingbacks, a silk scarf and a layered pearl bracelet. Her true love, Chuck Bass, certainly is her complement in an all-American colored blazer and tie, too. These two certainly make us excited for going back to school!
“We used to think it was impossible; Now you call me by my new last name… Memories seem like so long ago; Time always kills the pain…” Gwen Stefani’s favorite color combination is certainly blue and white in her 2005 video, “Cool,” when reminiscing about young love. Here, she takes a Vespa ride with her boyfriend while wearing a white capped-sleeved blouse and a cute pair of navy shorts adored with tiny bows on the side. She wears the opposite combination of a white shorts and a navy top while singing in the present-day shot. If you’re looking to get Gwen’s look, check out Style Amor‘s great post!
“And after all the obstacles; It’s good to see you now with someone else…” In our week dedicated to the music video “Cool,” our “Tuesday Twosome” are the two stars of the short: Miss Gwen Stefani, and the actor playing her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Gonzalez. In the flashbacks, we see a happy couple on Lake Como, Italy, falling in and out of love. Gonzalez sports a preppy tennis sweater, an untucked collared shirt, and rolled-up khaki pants, looking like a true disheveled summer boyfriend from everyone’s youth. Stefani wears a full, slightly patterned a-line skirt, with an open capped-sleeved navy cardigan, and a blue and white gingham halter bikini top. The real Italian girl looks absolutely stunning with her natural-colored chestnut locks, and sexy European 1950s vibe. Her outfit is the epitome of a romantic summer look: carefree, classic, slightly preppy, and sensuous. But summer love doesn’t always last forever, and even though these two may look like the perfect pair, their body language certainly doesn’t look like destiny in the photo below…
“It’s hard to remember how it felt before; Now I found the love of my life… Passes things get more comfortable; Everything is going right…” This Labor Day begins our week dedicated to the end of summer, and what better to celebrate that than a holiday celebrating the return to work & a song about a lost summer love? In 2005, Gwen Stefani’s music video for her song “Cool” premiered, and boy, did we fall for this brokenhearted love song! Here is Gwen in one of the opening scenes, donning a lovely navy blue 3/4-sleeved turtleneck, white shorts, and a pair of leopard pumps. She rolls around a luscious mansion bed, singing about her old boyfriend throughout the video in this sophisticated summer outfit. Gwen may be a brunette in her flashbacks, but here she is in full Stefani form – red lips, black cat eyes and her infamous platinum blonde hair (colored by L’Oréal, but she won’t reveal which number! 😉 )
Yesterday, the world lost Britain’s “Iron Lady,” and today we’re featuring the next generation of United Kingdom icons for our “Tuesday Twosome.” The first day of spring falls in March, but it usually doesn’t feel like it until April. Today, it definitely felt like spring had definitely sprung – since it was 80 degrees here in New York! What better outfit to feature for rebirth than Kate Middleton in this stunning floral number by Jenny Packham? Here the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are attending a charity polo match in the summer of 2011 outside of Los Angeles. Kate is sporting a silverish lavender De Gournay hand-painted chinoiserie silk dress with taupe L.K. Bennett heels. Prince William looks like a sophisticated prep in a navy blazer, crisp button-down and white trousers.
Well, these would have made the perfect pumps for last weekend, but they’ll look cute for any weekend this summer! These red, white and blue peep-toe pumps are patriotic and nautical – perfect for this season! They can be purchased on one of our favorite sites, Baby Girl Boutique. They have a 4.5 inch heel and cost $59.00.
The new love interest in the latest Transformers franchise is someone both men and women are starting to recognize… the long-legged, big-lipped bombshell that graces the pages of Victoria’s Secret is Miss Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. While promoting her film debut, Rosie’s chic choices are delightfully understated but incredibly glamorous. Rosie displays her best assets with dramatic plunging necklines or thigh-high train slits and this lady knows perfectly well what works for her. We decided Rosie needed some additional attention for her custom Burberry navy number on a Sunday dedicated to blue! (For a red, white and blue weekend!) Rosie did everything right by wearing studs instead of distracting over-sized pieces of jewelry and by keeping her lusciously long tresses swept up gently away from her face and shoulders. Let’s see if she sticks around longer than Megan Fox…
“This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total mis-reading of the movie The Graduate. The girl, Summer Finn of Shinnecock, Michigan, did not share this belief.” Zooey Deschanel always looks cute, whether it’s singing with her band She & Him or playing a disgruntled checkout girl in The Good Girl. In 500 Days of Summer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tom, an optimistic architect who falls in love with the hipster sweetheart. Deschanel plays Summer, a girl who isn’t interested in romance or relationships, and starts a casual fling in the first of a several films about “friends with benefits.” (And probably the most realistic…) One of our editors’ oldest and dearest friends is Zooey’s living and breathing alter-ego – a girl named Brittney, who’s 25th birthday happens to be today! So in honor of her quarter life milestone, and the beginning of summer, what better movie to feature?! The film, including all of Deschanel’s clothing, has a blue-centric theme that was done intentionally by director Marc Webb to bring out Zooey’s gorgeous eyes. (And maybe to illustrate Summer is as cold as the color? Or Tom’s depressing mood once the two split?) The movie’s costume designer is a woman named Hope Hanafin (with a name as whimsical as the film’s fictional lead), and had some very interesting views and ideas about Summer’s clothes. The teal and white halter dress (pictured, top left) is vintage Palace Costume. The soft powder blue dress Summer wears to a co-worker’s wedding (pictured, above left) is from Western Costume. Hanafin told MTV News “What I liked about that dress was that it was architectural. Here’s this man who is an architect and then there’s this romantic dress made out of straight lines. That dress just reminded me of the lines he would use when he was drawing, so I just fell in love with that dress for that moment.”
During an interview with MTV News, Hanafin stated the following: “A lot of it is vintage, but there’s still plenty that’s not. Though I have great respect for these romantic comedies where secretaries are wearing Prada, I wanted [500 Days of Summer] to be kind of the anti-Sex and the City. So, Zooey’s wearing clothes that her character really could afford, things are also repeated. Her clothes are a mix of things from Old Navy, GAP, BCBG and then there’s a lot of vintage. But not all of it was glamorous vintage. She has a Built By Wendy denim skirt and a couple other great things.” Although Summer Finn is one cool chick, we didn’t understand why she didn’t hold onto her best accessory in the film… Joseph Gordon-Levitt!
What’s a good shoe to start off the summer with? How about this adorable pair of navy blue nautical stilettos! These platform peep-toe pair of pumps with sailor’s rope and mirror detailing are from British retailer Dune. Called the “Sintillate” heels, we could just see Sabrina of today’s “Look-of-the-Day” sporting these after a day of sailing with Humphrey Bogart!
For a movie entitled Australia, this isn’t exactly the first look that would come to our minds (considering the tan, athletic outdoorsmen we tend to associate with the world’s most badass continent- Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Sam Worthington, and Hugh Jackman – the other lead star of this film!) But Nicole Kidman looks 100% lovely in this 2008 epic that bombed at the box-office. Baz Luhrmann’s movie had one other gorgeous aspect besides Mr. Jackman – the costumes! The director hired none other than his wife, Catherine Martin. Here, Kidman’s character is arriving in Australia wearing a stunning navy and white outfit with a polka-dotted blouse, along with matching luggage (courtesy of Prada), gloves, hat and that fantastic umbrella! (She’s gotta keep that porcelain skin protected properly!) Even though this movie turned out to be a disaster, at least it got Martin an Academy Award nomination! And a well-deserved one at that!
