On our list of featured Oscar-nominated actresses this year is Miss Anne Hathaway at the New York Premiere of her 2012 film, One Day. She sported a strapless black and gold Alexander McQueen Resort cocktail dress with matching gold stiletto pumps and jewelry by Tiffany & Co. She’s nominated, and the frontrunner, for her supporting performance in Les Miserables, so it makes to show her wearing gold.
The Hunger Games will be released on DVD this coming Saturday, so we’re featuring the film’s three stars at the Los Angeles premiere of the movie earlier this year for today’s “Look-of-the-Day.” Here are Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale). Lawrence looked lovely, as always, in a seductive gold cutout gown by Prabal Gurung, while her two leading men looked quite handsome in their respective suits. Hutcherson wore a three-piece charcoal suit by Z Zegna, while his romantic competitor in the movie donned a dark Dolce & Gabbana number. To celebrate The Hunger Games DVD, we’re hosting a competition featuring a pair of Peeta Bread Earrings by Christine Tyler! Please email the editors at theSkinnyStiletto what your favorite piece of jewelry is and why, along with a photo. We’ll feature your favorite accessory and story on our site, and mail you a brand-new pair of Peeta earrings as your prize! Submit all entries by August 20th to email@example.com! <3
It seems Ralph Lauren isn’t the only designer having some fun making Olympic-themed clothing; Manolo Blahnik has created a gold, silver and white stiletto inspired by the Greek games. “I love Ancient Greece and everything about it, so I often read books and look at albums full of ancient art, sculpture and architecture,” Manolo Blahnik said in a statement about the shoe. A price for the shoe has yet to be determined, but it will be featured in the designer’s 2012-2013 collection.
“I’ve never worn high heels and can’t get used to essentially wobbling around on the balls of my feet. But Effie runs around in them full-time, and I’m determined that if she can do it, so can I.“ Throughout The Hunger Games, Effie Trinket is always running around, making plans and sticking to schedules in her various pairs of high heels. Costume designer Judianna Makovsky picked out some great selections for Effie’s onscreen presence, including these futuristic “Gold Faithful” peep-toe stiletto booties by Alexander McQueen, who served as one of Makovsky’s fashion inspirations for the film. Originally priced around $1,200 (yikes – no wonder they’re meant for the opulent and indulgent people of the Capitol), they are now available on several online outlets for a lower price.
The queen of American television (a little-known woman by the name of Oprah) turned 58 today, and in her honor we’ve named her sparkly dress at the 2005 Academy Awards the Look-of-the-Day. Designed by Vera Wang, this layered, glittering gown looked spectacular on TV’s golden girl. The dress was made of tulle and embroidered in metallic thread. On her website, Winfrey stated it was her favorite gown Wang has ever created for her – “You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t cute!”
