Bull Durham’s Baseball Babe

theSkinnyStiletto has Spring Fever and with the flowers comes America’s favorite past-time: baseball!  Today is Opening Day, and we’ve decided to feature our favorite best-dressed baseball beauty.  In Bull Durham Susan Sarandon plays Annie, a sassy, smart-mouthed teacher and minor league baseball team “Durham Bulls” fan/score-keeper.  Alongside the yummy Kevin Costner as “Crash,” her quick wit and sensible way of dressing practically steal every scene!  Whereas other characters in the film can be easy victims of 1980s fashion, Sarandon wears classic throw-back pieces including cinched waistlines, A-line skirts, white Ked sneakers and sweaters worn slightly off her shoulder.  Our favorite look is her black, white and gray plaid dress with a bright red belt, pictured left.  Sarandon even looks good in an over-sized black button-down after finally seducing Costner.  It’s no wonder a young Tim Robbins fell for the woman who would eventually become mother to his two children on this set.  Crash famously describes being in the major leagues as, “You hit white balls for batting practice, the ballparks are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, and the women all have long legs and brains.”  Crash may never return to “the show,” but he certainly wins a shapely genius in Annie.  In the midst of grass stains, muddy fields, and tobacco chewing, her sophisticated silhouettes make us eager for sunshine, the scent of freshly cut grass, and the words, “Play Ball!”
